Some private health insurance policies may provide reimbursement for consultations with a NZ Registered Nutritionist. However, cover varies significantly between insurers and individual policies, and is not always clearly listed online.

How to check if you have cover

If you have private health insurance, we recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm:

  • Whether consultations with a Registered Nutritionist are covered

  • How much you can claim per consultation or per year

  • Whether a referral is required

Southern Cross has advised that the most reliable way for members to confirm cover for Registered Nutritionist consultations is to contact them directly.

Please note:

  • Not all Southern Cross policies include nutrition cover

  • The Health Essentials plan is one policy that includes cover for consultations with both NZ Registered Dietitians and NZ Registered Nutritionists

  • Coverage and claim limits depend on your specific policy
